An outdoor canopy can be great for camping. It is certainly more convenient than pitching a tent. But they also have other uses. Outdoor canopies have come in handy when a disaster hits.

In the aftermath of a natural disaster, such as an earthquake, these limited shelters can serve as some type of protection from the elements. They should be set up in an area where there is little chance of rubble falling onto them. They are strong, but their strength is limited.

It provides shelter from the rain and wind. It can provide a sense of privacy. And it can lessen the fear in children, if they feel they are in a safe place of their own.

In the case of a tornado, where people have lost much of their property, including their homes and personal belongings, these canopies can provide a sense of security. It protects a family and what they have left for as long as it is needed. Losing everything causes feelings of insecurity and fear. But a covering from the hot sun and the night sky, where you can rest with your family members, provides a basic shelter for those in need.

If you set up these humble shelters around other family members and friends, you can create a sense of community togetherness. This makes your area feel even safer and more secure. The children can play together, as they become more forgiving of their surroundings. At least their friends are still around them. And the adults can trade food and other necessities, providing much of what each family needs on a daily basis.

Whatever the disaster, when the recovery is over and shelters are needed, the outdoor canopies have saved the day for many. They are durable, easy to assemble and set up, and they each can house an entire family.
